American Cowboy: Alternative Landscapes – Opening Reception
May 22, 2025 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM
Join us for an intimate, in-gallery conversation with exhibiting artist Grace Kennison and Masur Curator of Exhibitions Kait Morrison as they explore the deeper layers of American Cowboys: Alternative Landscapes. This informal gathering will center around two key works—one from our permanent collection entitled “Texas Cowboy” and the painting it inspired within the exhibition, “My Cannonball Brain.” Together, these pieces open a dialogue about influence, iconography, memory, and the reimagining of Western mythology.
Rather than a formal lecture, this event will be a casual group conversation within the space itself. Visitors will be invited to gather around, ask questions, and join the unfolding discussion as Grace shares insights into her practice and the ways she reconfigures familiar symbols of the West into surreal, embodied forms.
This is a rare opportunity to glimpse behind the curtain of the exhibition and hear directly from the artist in the room that inspired part of the work.
Receptions at the Masur Museum of Art are free and open to the public. Light food and refreshments are served and ID for alcoholic beverages is required. Parking at the museum is limited so carpooling is suggested.
