Collections & Exhibition Archives Intern
The Masur Museum of Art seeks a paid, part-time Collections & Exhibition Archives Intern to assist in the digitization and research of collection and exhibition records. This intern will play a vital role in preserving the museum’s history by scanning and organizing hard files related to past exhibitions and permanent collection pieces. The position offers hands-on experience in curatorial research and collection management while working closely with Curator of Exhibitions and Collections.
Responsibilities:
- Digitize exhibition and collection hard files by scanning and organizing them into the museum’s digital archive.
- Assess documents to determine what should be retained or discarded under the guidance of Curator.
- Organize scanned files by accession number in the museum’s internal storage system (:H drive).
- Transfer and format relevant collection information into WordPress for easier accessibility.
- Assist in compiling and refining collection records, including formal analyses and contextual research on artworks and exhibitions.
- If time permits, expand digitization efforts to additional filing cabinets in storage.
Qualifications:
- Current student or recent graduate in Museum Studies, Art History, Library Science, or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Interest in museum archives, collections management, and exhibition research.
- Ability to work independently and handle delicate archival materials with care.
- Familiarity with digital archiving and collections databases is a plus, but training will be provided.
- Familiarity with WordPress is a plus.
