Overview

The Masur Museum of Art is offering a new six week college-style workshop that teaches students the very basics of painting a still life. The students will walk away from this class with the ability and confidence to create beautiful paintings of their own for years to come.

Goals

Each student will walk away with three still life paintings at the end of the course, but with the ability to create more after the course is finished. Students will learn how to create space and form on a canvas, and how the illusion of light and atmosphere is created by understanding value and color.

Experience Level

This workshop is a beginner course.  No previous experience in painting is required. The instructor will teach students everything they need to know in order to become confident painters.

*Students are responsible for bringing their own supplies.  The instructor will communicate with students by email before the first class with more information on materials.

What you learn:

This workshop will focus on the introduction of various bookbinding methods, tools and materials. During six two-hour sessions over six weeks students will learn how to make 4-5 different book structures, such as: hardback pamphlet, accordion, case bound, Coptic and Japanese bound books. No previous experience is necessary.

All the essential bookmaking materials and tools will be provided. In the beginning, students will leave each bookmaking session with a blank book. During the last two-three weeks we will focus on the more advanced case-bound book structure. Students will have a good foundation in bookmaking after completing this workshop.
